The plan was to leave today for Chub Cay as soon as the sun came up. “Plan was” … until I woke Tom up a little after 7 to blowing winds and the threat of rain. Maybe we will stay one more day. Went to the Harbor Master office to extend our stay and we were asked if we would like to order fresh homemade bread, any kind, to be delivered to our boat in the afternoon. Coconut please. No hesitation here. A sign that this was going to be good day. A good and a boat work day too (when does it end?!). At least the wind was blowing so I would get a break from being a noseeum buffet.
Much of our time was spent installing the new inverter so that I could plug in my MacBook Pro without frying it or forcing it to speak another language (flashback to last year in Norfolk when my Air would only speak Greek) and trying to figure out why the instruments were holding a rotating strike when we were moving. Things still were not quite right there. With what remained of our day we got to meet some of the fun and friendly people staying in the marina and the marina owner. A big “Hi, let’s meet up again soon. We are so glad that we met you” to our new friends s/v C-Shel, s/v Windrush, the couple on the Corbin 39 (not surprisingly all Canadian Boats) and our new American friends who came to the boat at dinner time to offer us a lift in their car to a party that the marina owner was holding at his personal residence – all boaters invited! What a kind and welcoming man and host he is. Born Bahamian, educated in a boarding school in Belleville (Canada), married a lady from Belleville and now his daughter lives in Toronto. We made him an honorary Canuck. This man certainly has some fun stories to tell and does so very well. We probably should have gone to the party that night, I have no doubt that we would have had fun but with a departure planed for first light we needed an early night.
